![]() Yesterday, Mehdi wrote about Dengu fever attacking Indian students. It seems that Dengue is causing even more damage in neighboring Sri Lanka. This year, already, 32 people have lost their lives from dengue attack in Sri Lanka. Wow, 32 persons getting killed from mosquito bites? According to Colombo Page:
“Dengue fever is raising its head again in Sri Lanka, Health Department sources said. Some 32 deaths among 7,270 infected cases were reported this year as of mid-September.
Sixty percent of the cases were reported from the Western Province in the Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts. Seven of the deaths were recorded in Colombo.
Man-made mosquito breeding grounds are the main cause for the spread of the decease. The dengue mosquito needs little but pure water to breed. They find abundant breeding grounds in the non-biodegradable items that are not properly disposed.”
Well, if you blame the Sri Lankan government for this problem then it will not be fair. The common people must become more conscious about keeping their neighborhood clean. If Dengue spreads further then it will not remain only as a health problem but also will adversely affect Sri Lanka’s economy.
