The last Pakistani city on this list is Peshawar. According to the Persian language, “Peshawar” means “City on the Frontier.” Located near the Khyber Pass, it is the provincial capital of North-West Frontier Province. The city has a population around one million. The Pashtuns or Pathans are the majority inhabitants of this area. Peshawar is the cultural, economic, and political center of the Pashtun people.
The history of Peshawar can be traced back to the Harappan civilization that flourished on the Indus valley. During the reign of the Kushana dynasty, this city was known as Purushpura. The city later came under the rule of Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the famous Mauryan dynasty. The Pakhtuns were converted to Muslims after the arrival of the Arabs and Turkic Muslims.
The present day Peshawar occupies a total area of 1257 sq. km. The entire city is divided into three areas: the old city, cantonment and a modern residential area. Summer starts from May and stays till September and winter from mid November to the end of March. Peshawar has the healthiest climate in Pakistan but due to the rise in population and rapid urbanization.

Being on the frontier and mountainous makes Peshawar sound a little like a Alaska. I've read of the Khyber Pass and could see the geography benefit the community economy. Looking at your previous posts, you have put together a good primer of Pakistani cities. Good info for the geographically challenged!
