Last week, a historical event took place in Nepal. The Maoist rebels and the government have signed a peace deal. Now, Nepal's new multi-party government would hand over $1.4 million (in other reports $1.3 million) as per the deal. This money will be used to build camps for the guerillas. According to Dilendra Prasad Badu, a government spokesman, last Monday, a cabinet meeting was held at Prime Minister, Girija Prasad Koirala's house. There he decided to provide the money for building camps. The money will also be spent on rations and other necessities of the guerillas. He also said that the officials have to provide a report on how the money was spent. The United Nations would also watch over the camps.
The soldiers of People's Liberation Army would surrender their arms in seven different places. The Maoists and the other parties would form a new government within 1st December. Before that, the government has to restore 35,000 fighters in 28 camps and store their weapons under the watch of the United Nations.
The fighting between the Maoists and government has been going on for many years which killed 13000 people. Nepal is small, under developed and heavily populated. The royal families had oppressed people and waste their money. The war between the Maoist rebels and army further worsened the country's economic condition. Now, there is a new hope. I wish that government and Maoist leaders find a way to coexist peacefully.
