Mount Everest is known as the highest peak of the world. The interesting thing is that till now nobody could find out its exact height. In order to find out the exact height, a group of people from China and Nepal has joined hands. I am quoting from the report published in Hindustan Times:
How high is Mount Everest? 29,028 feet, 29,035 feet or 28,998 feet? We shall soon know for sure. A joint Chinese and Nepalese team is about to begin a detailed scientific exercise to calculate the height of the world’s highest peak. The decision was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of surveyors of the two countries.
“There is great confusion over the actual height of Everest,” said Bhamindra Aryal, an official of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He blamed the different technologies used by scientists over the years. “Now people depend more on the Global Positioning System (GPS),” he said.
Nepal is home to top seven highest mountains of the world. Mount Everest is the symbol of national pride and honor for the country. For mountain trekking every year a large number of mountain trekkers gather from all over the world to Nepal. Hence, Mount Everest is also a major source of income for the country. Let us hope and pray that the effort becomes successful and we would know the real height of the highest mountain of the world.
