Nepalese people started the year 2007 with fresh optimism. Later this year, they will participate in the general election to decide about their future. They are also helpful that the new found peace and stability will help the Nepalese economy to have positive growth. However, cold wave has parlayed normal life some parts of Nepal in the last few days.

So, far some people have died in Nepal from cold. According to The Himalayan Times, 33 persons have died from cold in Nepal already. The poor people are suffering the worst. The Himalayan Times reported:

Mostly, elderly people from poor families are dying of cold wave, the Siraha CDO, Shashishekhar Shrestha, said. Chief of the Rautahat district hospital Dr Braja Kishor Thakur said people from backward communities and asthma patients are succumbing to the cold wave. Rautahat CDO Madhav Prasad Ojha said, “As the government has not issued directives, the DAO has not been able to do anything for the victims.”

Not a rosy picture at all! Such suffering and loss of life can never be good for the national economy. The international community should come forward to help the ordinary people. Relief organizations can play a crucial role in saving lives.
