In Pakistan, there are not many women in business like men. Because of social system, religion and other reasons, women entrepreneurs do not have the advantages like their male counterparts in the business sector. Looking at the present condition, the government has decided to set up a new export house that would help medium and small business entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs. I am quoting from the report published in paktribune.com:
An export house would be established to help small and medium entrepreneurs, particularly women, for appropriate marketing of their goods all over the world and to end role of middleman. Tariq Ikram, Chairman, Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP), on Wednesday said.
While talking to newsmen at a roundtable discussion on 'Women Entrepreneurship Development,' organised jointly by TDAP and CIPE. The Export House will be a private limited company but funded by government and run on no-profit and no-loss basis under TDAP, he said. To a query about meeting textile export target during the current fiscal year, Ikram stated it would be very difficult task and private sector had to play an active role through aggressive marketing to achieve it.
Mr. Tariq believes that women entrepreneurs should focus on gaining business knowledge and the well established entrepreneurs should have technological and manufacturing support. Pakistan government has taken various steps to support women entrepreneurs.
Not only Pakistan, women of other South Asian countries also face various problems. Due to the spread of education among females of these countries, now, many women are working in various offices and planning to start their own business. In this regard, the step to set up an export house to help women entrepreneurs by Pakistan government deserves appreciation. Governments of other South Asian countries should also take similar supportive measures and start various training programs to help women entrepreneurs.
