Rajasthan's love for Pink and stray dogs!!!

If you have ever been to Rajasthan the first thing that would catch your attention is that the buildings are colored in pink. Jaipur is the capital and it is also known as the “Pink City” of Rajasthan. Recently, the administration of Rajasthan found out that the only buildings and shops are painted only in pink in Jaipur. In Rajput culture, pink is the color of friendship and festivity and from the birth of the city the only color that has been used is pink. Pink is not just a symbol but a tradition in Jaipur.

It has been found out that the pink color does not stay for long because of the presence of yeast in cement. In order to have a better quality color the minister of Jaipur has established a committee which includes famous painters of Jaipur. The minister is also planning to introduce a new law that would make pink color paint obligatory for every structure built within the city limits.

Few days ago, I wrote about the spread of rabies from stray dog bites in India. The dog population of India is higher compared to other countries. However, most of the dogs are stray dogs and nobody bothers about them in India. Surprisingly, the people of Rajasthan organized a huge feast for two days for the stray dogs. People of forty five villages in the district of Barmer organized the feast as part of a festival for achieving peace and good harvesting season. In the feast, the dogs were served Lapsi, a famous Rajasthani dish. The feast cost Rs. 125,000 and for two days the dogs enjoyed Lapsi, a dish made of porridge, ghee, sugar and dry fruits.

Rajasthan as a city, always attracted people around the world for its historical relevance. The city contains many forts and palaces. Aside from the huge monuments, the Rajasthanis and their culture is also very interesting. Despite living in a desert area they lead a very colorful life. If you ever visit India, you should think of visiting Rajasthan.
