If you ask any Indian to name some of the most fortunate people of his/er country, then there is a very high probability that the name Abhishek Bachchan would come up. Why? Because he is the son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri; two of the most respected and powerful celebrities of Indian cinema. Born on February 5 1976, Abhishek studied in
Abhishek’s debut film Refugee was released in 2000. The director of the movie, J. P. Dutta, met Abhishek in a party and gave him a token money of Rs.101. Refugee, like most of the movies of J.P. Dutta, deals with Hindustan
Abhishek appeared in the lead roles in a number of movies between 2000 and 2003 and none of them did well. Till 2003, Abhishek had to struggle a lot. Many people said that he did not have any acting skill and mainly copied his father. Abhishek Bachchan’s luck changed in 2004. In Mani Ratnam’s movie Yuva, he played the role a hoodlum, Lallan and proved that he was not just Amitabh Bachchan’s son but could also act very well. For his outstanding performance in Yuva, he won the Filmfare Award for best supporting actor and all other awards for supporting actor in 2004. Followed by Yuva, Dhoom, Dus, Bunty Aur Bubli, Sarkar, Bluff master turned Abhishek into one of the most promising actors in the present day Bollywood.
In 2007, Abhishek Bachchan’s first film Guru did phenomenal business. It is the first solo hit in Abhishek’s career.
Abhishek maintained a clean image. There are no major scandals. In 2001, he was engaged with Karisma Kapoor but it was broken. In 2007, Abhishek got engaged with Aishwarya Rai.
Being the son of the most famous actor in Bollywood, Abhishek faces serious pressure. Coming out of his father’s image and getting established as a fine actor is not an easy job. People have lots of expectations from Abhishek Bachchan because he is Amitabh Bachchan’s son. However, I feel that this is unfair. Just because Amitabh is very famous does not mean that Abhishek has to be equally famous. Besides, the people who say this should remember that the present scenario of Bollywood is very different than that when Amitabh Bachchan came into films. Abhishek is very young and he has a long career. He has a good start in this year. Let’s see what waits for him.
