Although the most successful actor of Bollywood, Amitabh has his share of sufferings. Many times he suffered from physical injuries. However, the blessings and prayers of his fans always kept him alive.
As I was browsing the web, I came across this story published in Old Sherwoodians. Amitabh was supposed to participate in the play held on the school’s Founder’s Week. He was supposed to play the role of a judge. Last year, he won Kendal Cup for his performance. If he had won the cup for the second year it would be a big achievement for him. Unfortunately, he could not take part in the play. He was feeling dizzy on the night before the play. The doctor diagnosed him and found measles. From the hospital window he could see the curtain was going up and the play started. At that moment he saw his father standing on the door. He talked with Amitabh and diverted his attention from the play.
In 1982, Amitabh almost died from an accident that took place when he was shooting for Coolie. He was internally bleeding and had to be given seventeen bottles of blood. However, his film fans around the nation prayed for his recovery day and night. One man even ran backwards for 500 miles as he made pact with God for his recovery.
Amitabh suffers from asthma. He also has myasthenia gravis, a muscular disease. For this, he had to restructure his left hand. In 2005, he had a surgery in his stomach.
Despite all these physical injuries Amitabh leads a very active life and he intends to continue acting as long he remain fit and healthy.
