Just when we thought that the days of bird flu in South Asia were over, we have new report of bird flu cases in Pakistan. The good thing is that there is no major outbreak of bird flu in Pakistan now. So far, we have just seen isolated incidents.

The deadly H5N1 bird flu virus has been found in samples obtained from a home in the capital, Pakistan confirmed Saturday.

This was the country's third bird flu case since early February last year, when the virus was found in samples received from two households in Rawalpindi and in northwestern city of Mansehra.

However, no case of the virus has been reported from commercial birds in the country, Mohammed Afzal, spokesman for the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, was quoted by the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan as saying.

So, there is no reason to be worried at this moment. However, Pakistani officials should take this matter seriously and encourage people to be more conscious about taking care of their pet birds. Thousands of poultry birds were slaughtered last year in Pakistan when bird flu affected Pakistani poultry farmers.
