In Bollywood, he is more popular as “Hrishi da.” Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan did nine movies together. In Abhiman Amitabh played the character of a husband who becomes jealous of his wife’s success. The songs of the film were composed by R.D. Burman. Those who have seen this movie (including me) would admit that the last song where Amitabh and Jaya Bhaduri were seen together is the most emotional song of the movie. Tere mere Milan ki yeh Raina, the song that would still make people cry is one of R.D Burman’s greatest creations.
Aside from serious movies, Hrishikesh Mukherjee also did comedy movie Chupke Chupke. Here Amitabh plays the character of an English literature professor who falls in love with his friend’s sister-in-law. Another most significant movie of this duo is Anand. In Anand Amitabh Bachchan is a physician who is frustrated by the bitter reality of life but learns that life can be a very beautiful thing when he meets Anand, played by the then superstar, Rajesh Khanna. Anand is considered to be one of all time greatest movies of Bollywood. In Namak Haram, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh appears again. This time Amitabh plays the character of the son of a millionaire, Vikram Maharaj. Among other movies there are: Guddi,Mili,Alap,Jurmana, and Bemisaal.
