It is certainly good news for Bangladesh. Bangladesh has a lot of people- more than 140 million and the country exports manpower on a continuous basis. On the other hand, Malaysia needs a lot of imported labor to keep its economy flourishing. For the last few years, Malaysia stopped importing labor from Bangladesh. In fact, Malaysia again started taking workers from Bangladesh only a few months ago. Now, it seems that Malaysia is going to take over 100,000 workers from Bangladesh very quickly.

The Daily Star reported:

Of the 1,05,000 workers to be recruited, 26,000 workers received clearance from the Malaysian authorities and 18,000 have already left for Kuala Lumpur. The government has fixed Tk 85,000 for each worker who wants to work in Malaysia.

Currently, around 3,00,000 Bangladeshi workers are employed in Malaysia.

The foreign affairs adviser said as the present caretaker government is now engaged in combating corruption, appropriate steps are being taken against unscrupulous manpower agencies who committed forgery and harassed workers while sending them abroad.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury gave this good news to the journalists earlier today. Remittance is now the major source of earning foreign exchange for Bangladesh. This decision of Malaysian government will help Bangladesh to earn more foreign exchange in the coming months.
