Nepal has seen a sharp increase of 5.8% in the tourist arrival by air in January this year comparing to the January last year. Mainly the tourists from Asia and some rich European countries came in larger number.

January's growth was contributed chiefly by Asian markets followed by growth from major European countries, a press statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) today said citing figures released by Immigration Office at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Though the number of European visitors and some Asian visitors has increased, tourists from SAARC countries have been slowed down. The tourist site, Pokhara, is getting popularity as a tourist spot among the travelers. Moreover, Nepal tourism board has declared that they are going to celebrate the year 2007 as the Visit Pokhara Year 2007.

I think this is a positive sign for Nepal as tourism is one of the key sectors of Nepalese economy. Tourism contributes a lot to the economy. So Nepal government is trying hard to attract the travelers more. I think the political stability of the country played a significant role behind such increase in tourist arrival.

This is another reminder of the fact that Nepalese tourism sector needs nothing else except political stability and peace.
