The people of Sri Lanka may be suffering from the on going civil war but they are great fans of Cricket too. In fact, Sri Lanka became champion of World Cup Cricket 1996 and this is the biggest achievements of Sri Lanka in their history. So, I am not surprised to see that Sri Lanka is going to print new postage stamps to celebrate World Cup Cricket 2007.

Malaysia Sun reported:

The Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) board, in collaboration with the philatelic bureau of the Department of Post and Telecommunications, will issue postage stamps to commemorate the 2007 cricket World Cup.

The stamps, priced at Sri Lankan Rs.5 and Rs.50, will be officially launched Friday at the SLC headquarters. Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Rauff Hakeem and Minister of Sports Bandula Basnayake will be present at the launch ceremony.

I am sure that these stamps will become instant in the country. If Sri Lanka can do well in World Cup Cricket 2007 then the demand for these stamps will increase many folds.
