
Another major product of the Sundarbans is its tree species. As I have mentioned before, because of the abundance of Heritiera fomes, a tree species, locally known as Sundri, the forest was named the Sundarbans. Sundarban contains 334 species of trees, shrubs and epyphites.
The most common forest product is fuel wood. The surrounding village areas of the Sundarbans use woods to produce fire.
Non-wood forest products include Golpata (Nypa fruticans), honey, and wax. A group of people known as “Bawali” collects honey from deep forests. Honey is used as food, drink, beverage and medicine in the country.
Some major tree species are: tectona grandis, gmelina arborea, swietenia spp, artocarpus chaplasha, legarstromia speciosa, albizzia spp, chikrassia tabularis, xylia dolabriformis, anthocephalus cadamba, hopea odorata.

The woods obtained from the trees are used for building houses and furnitures. Previously the trees are used to produce news prints and hardboard. In addition, boat builders of these areas use the woods.
