"At the World Cup the players would be wearing only ICC-approved clothing which would be more or less similar in colour and other aspects to the present one being worn by the Indian team members," clarified BCCI's Chief Executive Officer Ratnakar Shetty. Shetty said the BCCI had received a communication from the ICC that only the apparel approved by the world governing body could be worn by all the teams at the World Cup. The country's cricket fans would now have to wait till the commencement of the three-match one-day series in
in May, which is the first assingment for the team after the World Cup, to see their favourite stars in the new garb, Shetty added. The clarification means Indian players cannot wear the new apparel, which is claimed to be 15 per cent lighter and with good sweat-absorbing features to keep the body temperature cool, during cricket's showpiece event. I am not unhappy with this decision of ICC. I am against the idea of wasting time for small matters when Indian players should focus on their performance. Just 20 days remain before World Cup Cricket 2007 and this is not the time to waste time in unveiling new dresses.
