If you try to find 10 best batsmen in the history of world cup cricket based on the statistics, then, for sure, there would be some other excellent batsmen who showed their feat in the world cup for their country. However, today I got a list of top ten world cup batsmen in terms of highest world cup runs and for sure, they are also some of the legends of world cricket.
Interestingly, three South Asian batsmen occupy the first three positions in the list. Sachin Tendulkar scored 1732 with the second best average of 59.71 among the top ten batsmen. Then Pakistani legend Javed Miandad comes to the no. 2 position with 1083 runs and Sri Lankan world cup winning team member Aravinda de Silva stands at no. 3 with 1064 runs in world cup.

Though all of the batsmen entered in the list deserve to be the legend for their countries, I think it is Sir Vivian Richards who was the best entertainer. His batting average 63.31 is the best among the top ten batsmen in world cup. Playing just 23 matches he scored 1013 runs with three centuries in world cup.
Another Interesting thing is that both the Waugh brothers, Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh, are in the list. With the inclusion of the current Australian captain Ricky Ponting,
Sachin Tendulkar
Javed Miandad
Aravinda de Silva
Vivian Richards
Mark Waugh
Ricky Ponting
Steve Waugh
Arjuna Ranatunga
Brian Lara
Saeed Anwar
Moreover, among the ten top ten batsmen of the world cup, six batsmen captained their country. So, you can realize that how much influential these batsmen were in the past world cup tournaments. Another thing is that among the top ten batsmen of world cup, three batsmen are going to take part in the World Cup Cricket 2007.
However, aside these batsmen, I would like to name some other influential batsmen who have proved their class in the world cup. Sourav Ganguly holds the record of the second highest individual scorer in the world cup after scoring 183 not out against

Dear Sir / Madam,
In my view I think the best batsman in cricketing history is Sir Vivian Richards, because there have, and at present many batsmen, who are of fine quality, but only one Vivian Richards that can intimidate bowlers, fast, or slow, from the time of arriving at the crease to his departure. Therefore, he is the only batsman who can destroy a game of cricket within a few hours, as he proved with the quickest hundred in the history of Test Cricket against England in his home town of Antigua. There have been many other batsmen who have been better temperamentally, and technically, but non better as a match winner on his given day than Sir Viv Richards.
Yours Faithfully,
Muralidaran Ramesh Somasunderam.
