Synopsis: Kiranjit Ahluwalia (Aishwarya Rai)is a Punjabi housewife living in London with her two children and husband, Deepak Ahluwalia (Naveen Andrews). For ten years, she has been tolerating the physical abuse by her husband but could not continue anymore. One night, she sets fire and killed her husband unintentionally. The court of England gave her life imprisonment for murdering her husband.

In jail, she befriends this rich white woman Veronica Scott, who helped her to learn English. Her story comes into the attention to the group of South Asian social worker “Southall Black Sisters.” This group organized rallies and gathered public support for her freedom. Finally, she was freed in a case which is known as “Regina vs. Ahluwalia.”

The film has been shot in 32 days. It was premiered in IIFA Awards in June last year. The movie has been released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and Spanish, aside from its main version which is in English. Aishwarya gave her voice for the Hindi version.
