Bollywood's LOVE for CRICKET(I)

Bollywood and cricket has a long time relation. There are many Bollywood personalities who are avid fans of cricket. Included on this list are the names of famous singer, musicians, actors, and actresses. Some of these people have such knowledge of the game that they could have been equally successful as cricketers if they were given fair chance. Many Bollywood actresses had relationship with famous cricketers and some cricketers even tried their luck in Bollywood movies. In my first post of this series, I am going to talk about some of the famous Bollywood actors who are big cricket fans.

Dilip Kumar:

Yusuf Khan AKA Dilip Kumar is a self proclaimed fan of cricket. Like Lata Mangeshkar, whom he refers as her “little sister” Dilip Kumar fixes his working schedule according to the cricket matches. Even there are stories that he would remain absent if there were any important cricket match. The producers and directors had to work it out among themselves. Since he is a superstar of his time, he was able to meet with many famous cricketers and some of them even came to his house. Now days, satellite channel has made it very easy for him to watch all the matches. It also gives her wife Saira Banu to sit with her husband and share some QUALITY TIME TOGETHER!!

Manoj Kumar:

With the name Manoj Kumar, the first thing that comes to my mind is a song “Meri Desh Ki dharti sona ugle, ugle hira moti, Meri Desh Ki Dharti.” A fan of Dilip Kumar he took the name, Manoj Kumar. He is famous for his patriotic films like Upkar, Shaheed, Purab aur Pashchim, Kranti. It is not just movies that he loved to make but also cricket he loved.

Dev Anand:

He is known as the “Ever Young” Bollywood filmstar. He is also a big cricket buff. However, it was he who first expressed his displeasure regarding the lengthy test matches. Now, the cricket officials are implementing a short length version of the game around the world. He also made a movie on cricket Awwal Number in 1990.
