It is not only the actors who love cricket but also singers and musicians. In this post of my series, Bollywood's love for cricket, I will talk about some of the great Bollywood musicians and singer who loves cricket very much. 

Lata Mangeshkar:

Known as the “Nightingale of India,” Lata Mangeshkar, not just only loves cricket but also understands the game and the players. Like an expert cricket commentator, she can talk about various aspects of cricket. How the players differ from each other, their strong points and weak points and so on. Since she has been the most celebrated singer of India, fortune took her to all the cricket playing countries. She watched many famous matches. Her age could not dampen her love and spirit for cricket. Still now, Lata Mangeshkar, fixes her schedule according to the matches. She may have given her voice to produce beautiful melodious songs but had the situation been different she could have become the first female Indian cricket commentator with a beautiful voice.

Naushad Ali:

He is a legendary figure in the Indian music. Naushad Ali can be referred as one of the “fathers” of Bollywood music. Another interesting fact is that he introduced Lata Mangeshkar to Bollywood. He is not only a great musician but also a big fan of cricket. Naushad is the one to successfully use the background music in Hindi cinema. He also started a new trend of separate recording. The singer’s voice was recorded and then music scores were set accordingly. Aside from music and cricket, Naushad Ali also loved angling. He has been the member of Maharashtra State Angling Association. His biggest catch ever was a 52Ib “Catla” fish in the lake of Powai situated near Mumbai. 

Kalyanji-Anandji:

When I was writing about another major cricket buff, actor Manoj Kumar, I wrote about the famous patriotic song “Mere desh Ki Dharti” of his movie Upkaar. Now let me introduce you to the talented musicians who crafted the music of that song Kalyanji Virji Shah and Anandji Virji Shah. These musician brothers were famous for providing great songs in the 60’s and 70’s hit Bollywood films like Zanjeer, Upkaar, Samrat Chandragupta, Don. The two brothers also enjoyed cricket very much. 

Laxmikant Pyarelal:

Like Kalyanji Anandji,  Laxmikant and Pyarelal are not related by blood but by music. Popularly known as Laxmi Pyare, they worked as assistants of Kalyanji and Anandji before they started as musicians. In their musical career they composed music for 500 films and won seven Filmfare Awards. Like Kalyanji and Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal duo were cricket lovers.
