Sharmila Tagore+ Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi:       

After so much heart breaks, divorce, short lived romances and rumors you would definitely start to think that "cricketer actress jodi (couple)" is totally hopeless. But wait!! if your love is true, if you have faith on each other then there is always hope. Readers, in this last “cricketer+actress” series, I give you Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the "Still Standing" cricketer and actress jodi. I saved their story for the ending because "all's well that ENDS WELL.”

Sharmila Tagore:

Not just she is the relative of Bengali Noble Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore but also an immensely talented actress. A protégé of Satyajit Ray, the legendary Bengali film maker, Sharmila Tagore is a sex symbol, and a trend setter. Her movie “Anand Ashram” with Uttam Kumar is one of my all time favorites. If any historian wants to write a book about 60’s Bollywood actresses, then his work would be totally incomplete without Sharmila Tagore. She could fit into any kind of character; whether a decent Indian girl or a girl in bikini, nothing was impossible for Sharmila Tagore. Her major movies include Aradhana, Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening in Paris, Amar Prem and so on. Presently, she is working as the Chairperson of Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi:

He is popularly known as “Tiger Pataudi.” Born to a family of Nawab’s at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Mansoor Ali Khan, is a right handed batsman and right arm medium pace bowler. He was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for a record time of 14 years. He was appointed as the captain of Indian cricket team in 1962 at the age of 21, the youngest captain in the history of cricket.  

Both these people have come from respected families. However, they belonged to different religion and different culture. None of these factors became a major obstacle on their way to successful marriage and a long lasting relationship. Sharmila Tagore married Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1969. Before marrying Pataudi, Sharmila Tagore converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha Sultana. The couple has two daughters, Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan and one son Saif Ali Khan. Saif Ali Khan is one of the successful actors in the present day Bollywood. Soha Ali is a new comer but she has exhibited her talent for acting in Raang De Basanti, one of the most successful films of last year.

So we see that there is always hope. Actually, a successful relationship depends on a lot of factors. The main problem is cricketers are attracted to actresses for their beauty and actresses to cricketers for their name and fame. This is not a good way to start relationship. One should judge a person by how s/he is not by what s/he has.
