Earlier in his career, Amitabh Bachchan played same characters in two of his movies and none of them did well. Jaadugar (1989) was directed by Prakash Mehra and Tofaan (1989) by Ketan Desai, son of famous Bollywood director, Manmohan Desai. In both these movies, Amitabh Bachchan played the character of a magician.
Prakash Mehra can be referred as Amitabh Bachchan’s God father. In 1973, Prakash Mehra made Zanjeer, the first hit film in Amitabh Bachchan’s career that turned Amitabh Bachchan into a star. In an interview published in 2006, Prakash Mehra said that Amitabh Bachchan betrayed him. As he did similar roles in Ketan Desai’s Toofan, both movies did poorly. What exactly was the problem between Amitabh and you?
Amitabh betrayed me. He did Manmohan Desai’s Toofan where he played a similar role to what he had in my Jaadugar. Both the films were being made almost at the same time. It is a very tragic situation. Anyone, especially those who are the fans of Amitabh Bachchan, would feel sad after reading the interview.
The point I want to make here is, since Chini Kum is R. Balakrishnan’s debut movie, it may not do well. However, the odds have grown bigger for him as another movie by a well established director, on the same theme has been released first. The audience may not find the second one very enjoyable. Who would Balakrishnan then hold responsible? I think Amitabh Bachchan should have given a thought when he signed Ram Gopal’s Nishabd. Do you agree with me?

Amitabh can sign any film whatsoever the subject, as presently he is a money making machine. So either from films or from advertisements including Propaganda of UP Govt. he can say anything for money.
