The most important match of Group B between two former world champions India and Sri Lanka will be held on 23 March. I have already posted an entry analyzing the batting strength of the two teams. However, bowlers of the two teams will also be very important in the match. Now, I will write on the bowling line up of the two teams.
I feel that in terms of bowling strength Sri Lanka is ahead of India. Specially, I would like to name Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan, two legendary bowlers of Sri Lankan team. I think both of them will be dangerous for Indian batsmen. Moreover, two young bowler- Farveez Maharoof and Lasith Malinga are doing very well these days. In addition, all rounder Sanath Jayasuria will also be there with his left arm spin bowling.
For Indian bowling line up, I can not be so much optimistic as their bowlers lack consistency. Munaf Patel is in a good form. Zaheer Khan is doing well but sometimes he fails to maintain line and length. On the other hand, though Ajit Agarkar is getting wickets, he is conceding too many runs. I do not know why India is not taking Sreesanth in the first eleven. For spinners, Kumble could not bowl well in the match against Bermuda and neither did Harbhajan Singh in the match against Bangladesh.
So, I can not be too much optimistic about the India bowlers. However, cricket is a game of uncertainty where anything can happen. So, India vs Sri Lanka may be the match in which Indian bowlers will shine.
