India vs West Indies: India Wins by 9 Wickets

The warm up match between India and West Indies ahead of World Cup Cricket 2007 has just finished. India has defeated West Indies convincingly by 9 wickets. Batting first, West Indies could manage just 85 runs in just 25.2 overs. India reached the target with ease. Thus, India won both of their warm up matches ahead of World Cup Cricket 2007. India lost Virender Sehwag early in the innings but West Indian bowlers could not capitalize on this early break. Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik then played carefully and they took India to victory. India reached the target at the 19^th over. Robin Uthappa scored 35 runs and Dinesh Karthik made 38 runs. None of the West Indian bowlers could make any impression. Powel got the only wicket and bowled some better than the others.

Earlier in the match, West Indies could score just 85 runs. From the beginning of the West Indies innings, Indian bowlers could maintain good line and length and West Indies batting line up could not stand up to the Indian pacers. Especially, Indian pacer Munaf Patel looked very dangerous and he took 4 West Indian wickets conceding just 10 runs in 6 overs.

Irfan Pathan has proved his fitness and form once again by taking 3 wickets for 25 runs in 6 overs. However, Rahul Dravid gave new ball to Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan who also impressed with their performance as both of them bagged one wicket each but were very tight in conceding runs. Actually, it seemed that all the four bowlers have made it difficult for the team management to select the best eleven. Anil Kumble took the last wicket of the West Indies innings.

On the other hand, only three West Indian batsmen could reach the double figure. Highest 22 runs came from their Captain Brian Lara in which he got life once as Yuvraj Sing dropped his catch. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Smith both scored 13. After the three scores Mr. Extra with 11 was the fourth highest scorer of the West Indies innings.

India is going to open their World Cup Cricket 2007 campaign against Bangladesh on March 17. It will be an interesting match. India has won both of their warm matches. At the same time, Bangladesh has won the two warm up matches too. So, the players of both the teams will be in a confident mood.

I think India has started as a favorite, having won two back to back win in the warm up matches. Though Indian bowling was a matter of great concern, the Indian bowlers have proved thier performecen in the match agasint West Indies.

This Indian team has a good chance to repeat the 1983 world cup.
