Games are one of the major sources of entertainment and sometimes major cause of death. Cricket is the most popular game in India and some people are just obsessed with this game. On 17th March, the Indian cricket team was defeated by Bangladesh. After winning the toss, India bat first and made 191 runs losing 9 wickets. Bangladesh made 195 runs losing 5 wickets. This is a very shameful defeat for India cricket team which had some of the top batsman in the world like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. For the Indians, it was a sad day but some could not bear the shame of this defeat. One such person is Ramparvesh Rai, a seventeen year old boy.
He was so shocked by India’s defeat that he instantly had a heart attack and died. I am quoting from the report published in Khaleej Times: A 17-year-old boy in Bihar died of a heart attack soon after India’s shocking defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the cricket World Cup, media reports said yesterday.
Ramparvesh Rai, 17, an emotionally-charged student and a die-hard cricket fan, died on Sunday after India lost to Bangladesh on Saturday.
“India’s defeat cost my son’s life. He was so shocked that his heart stopped beating minutes after the winning stroke by Bangladeshi batsman Mushfiqur Rahim,” said Ramparvesh’s father Sita Ram Rai, a resident of Adalpur village in Samastipur district, about 70km from here. “He could not digest the defeat as he fell unconscious and on the way to the hospital he died of a massive heart attack,” Sita Ram Rai said.
According to Rai, he and his family were watching the match live on Doordarshan. “He was upset after the poor performance of the Indian batsmen,” a tearful Rai said.
The tragic thing is that the father is blaming the Indian cricket team for his boy’s death. Is it a fair thing to do? It is not that Indian cricket team is the only one to experience this kind of defeat. Pakistan was also defeated by Bangladesh and what about the match between Australia and Sri Lanka in the 1996 world cup? There is always win and loss in games. A true sports man should never feel bad after losing a game. There are some people can not just stand the loss. My request to the cricket fans “Please do not be so upset if your team does not play well." This is natural. Sometimes the players play well and win and sometimes they lose. This is a game which is not more important than your life.
