SMS of Greg Chappell to Rajan Bala
Now, there is a new controversy in India about a SMS of Greg Chappell that he sent to Rajan Bala, a veteran journalist. This SMS was sent on 17 February 2007 (nearly 1 month ago of World Cup Cricket 2007) and in that SMS, Greg Chappell expressed his dissatisfaction with the selection of the Indian team. Now, when everyone is angry with Greg Chappell, Rajan Bala has made the text of the message public to help his old friend.

India eNews reported:

In the text message sent to Rajan Bala on Feb 17, essentially praising an article written by the veteran cricket writer, Chappell wrote that he wanted more youngsters in the 15-member team but senior players had resisted his demand.

'Even in the last (World Cup) selection meeting, I fought for the youth. Senior players fought against it,' Bala read out the message from his mobile phone in front of several television channels.

The message was sent five days after the squad was picked for the World Cup.

'(The) chairman of selectors (Dilip Vengsarkar) went with them out of fear of media, if they failed.'

Asked why he chose to disclose the contents of a private SMS at this point, Bala said he did so to save Chappell from the harsh criticism following the World Cup disaster.

So, you can see that the only intention of Rajan Bala was to help Greg Chappell at such a bad time of Indian cricket. This is the sad part of Indian cricket. Now, many people will start arguing about this text message and forget the main problem.

We should not forget that Greg Chappell disliked Sourav Ganguly and backed Rahul Dravid as the captain. Many BCCI officials were with him in his crusade to keep Ganguly out of the Indian Team. And now, some people like Rajan Bala are trying to show that Greg Chappell did not have good relationship with Rahul Dravid and BCCI.
