Team India: Virender Sehwag in World Cup Cricket 2007

The star Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag is determined to do well in the upcoming World Cup Cricket 2007. This excellent hard hitting batsman has not been in good form in the last couple of series. After the consistent off form, Virender Sehwag was out of the team for the home series against West Indies. However, in the recent series against Sri Lanka he came back to the team and eventually got selected for the world cup squad. Before leaving India with the Indian team for West Indies, Virender Sehwag expressed his ideas about the world cup with the media.

Andracafe reported:

'Luck has not been with me for sometime now. I hope the bad times are over and luck will smile on me during the World Cup,

'My shot selection has also not been good in the recent past and it contributed to my poor form,'

'My goal is to put up consistent performance. I have worked hard in the off time in Delhi and hope it will bear fruit. Hope good times are just around the corner,' he said of his long practice sessions under his childhood coach Amar Nath Sharma.

'I will take it match by match in the West Indies,' said the 28-year-old, the lone Indian to have scored a triple Test century.

'After all, when I started playing cricket I never expected that one day I would become the Indian team's vice-captain, so when I was removed it did not affect me,' he said.

Sehwag is now looking forward to the warm-up matches against Netherlands and West Indies. Solid performance in these matches will help him to make a place in the best eleven. I think he is a class batsman and for a class player, it just needs a good innings to come to the right track. So, I think, Virender Sehwag can really come back to his best in World Cup Cricket 2007.
