Top 10 Big Hitting Batsmen in World Cricket

When the One Day Cricket was introduced in the early 70’s, many predicted that it would destroy the real excitement of cricket. However, with the passing of time, ODI cricket has become more popular than Test Cricket. Then, what made it popular? I think that hard hitting batsmen made ODI cricket popular. Earlier the world has seen some of the hard hitter batsmen like Viv Richards, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Ian Botham who destroyed the opponent bowling time and again.

Today I found the names of some of the present day hard hitter batsmen who are going to impress the world in the coming World Cup Cricket 2007 in the official website of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. I am stating some the names of the pinch hitter batsmen:

Shahid Afridi – Pakistan

MS Dhoni – India

Chris Gayle – West Indies

Adam Gilchrist – Australia

Sanath Jayasuriya – Sri Lanka

Jacob Oram – New Zealand

Virender Sehwag – India

Aside, in the article, I got a list of the 10 highest six hitter batsmen ever in the ODI cricket. Shahid Afridi stands at the top of the list with 218 sixes. Former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuria is in no. 2 position, having one six short to Afridi. Then Sourav Ganguly got the third position with his 172 sixes. I am giving the names of the top ten highest six hitter batsmen below:

Shahid Afridi

Sanath Jayasuriya

SC Ganguly

Sachin Tendulkar

Chris Cairns

I Haq

BC Lara

AC Gilchrist

IVA Richards

 RT Ponting

The most important thing is that, eight of these 10 batsmen are now playing and are going to take part in World Cup Cricket 2007. So, you can easily understand that the coming world cup is going have a lot of excitement. However, statistics can not always depict all the things well and I am sure that there are some other batsmen who have the ability to demolish any bowling side in the world cricket. Talented batsmen like Mohammad Ashraful of Bangladesh, England’s batsmen Kevin Pietersen, Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, West Indian opening batsman Chris Gayle, Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds, Canadian batsmen John Davison (the record holder of quickest world cup century) have the ability to entertain the crowd by scoring very quickly.
