Twenty20 World Cup Championship

Twenty20, a new form of cricket, is now going to have its first World Cup Championship in September of this year. Twenty20 has already got much popularity for its hard hitting batting and never ending excitement. As each of the participating team can play 20 overs, matches get finished within a few hours.

The first Twenty20 World Cup is going to be held in South Africa. It is expected that the tournament will attract more people than the ODI World Cup Cricket. The fixture of the tournament has already been fixed and just needs to be approved by ICC.

First Twenty20 World Cup tournament involves 12 teams including 10 test playing countries along with two other qualifying teams (Kenya and Scotland). The tournament will start at 11th of September and the final will be held on 24th of September, 2007.

The 12 teams have been divided in to four groups of three. I am giving the group names and the teams below:

Group A:

South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh

Group B:

England, Zimbabwe and Australia

Group C:

New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Kenya

Group D:

Pakistan, India and Scotland

Two top teams from each group will be advancing into the Super Eight round.

I am quoting some line regarding the fixture from Twenty20 Cup:

A breakdown of the fixtures is expected to be released by the end of the month, Roweda Kandan, the Cricket South Africa official tasked with overseeing the Twenty20 World Cup, confirmed to PA Sport.
"The groups have been confirmed and the final fixtures are at the ICC for approval at the moment," Kandan said.

"There have been a number of proposed revisions, so we will wait on them to review these and make a decision on them.
"Obviously with the World Cup on the go in the West Indies, we are only likely to have finality by the end of the month."
The top two teams in each group go through to the Super Eight and matches will be played at Newlands in Cape Town, Kingsmead in Durban and the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

I am very much optimistic about the future of Twenty20 cricket and for sure, it is going to make cricket more popular and attractive across the world.
