World Cup Cricket 2007: Bangladesh vs India

Tomorrow, India is going to start its campaign against Bangladesh in World Cup Cricket 2007. On pen and paper, India should have a convincing win against Bangladesh but no one is taking Bangladesh lightly now. Before the beginning of World Cup 2007, Bangladesh defeated New Zealand and Scotland in the warm up matches. This impressive performance has made Bangladesh as the dark horse of World Cup Cricket 2007.

India has undoubtedly one of the best batting lineups in the world. Tomorrow’s match against Bangladesh will be a big test for the Indian batsmen. I have to say that in the two warm up matches, Indian batsmen have failed to impress me. Yes, India won their matches but Indian batsmen could not dominate the matches as much as I would like to see. On the other hand, Indian bowlers have performed well in the warm up matches. I guess tomorrow, Indian bowlers will again perform well. Caribbean pitch is supposed to support spin bowlers and India has plenty of them.

On the other hand, the players of Bangladesh team are full of confidence after defeating New Zealand a few days ago. Bangladeshi batting line up is not so strong like Indian lineup but Bangladesh has some good batsmen like Mohammad Ashraful. On the other hand, Bangladeshi bowlers are doing fine in the recent days. Tomorrow, they have to restrict Indian batsmen and must not let them post big score.

I know that very few people will expect Bangladesh to defeat India tomorrow but cricket is the game of glorious uncertainty. Don’t forget that.

Do you think that spirited Bangladesh can defeat India tomorrow?

India certainly have an amazing top 5 batsmen, but what is happening repeatedly in this tournament is that 3 or 4 wickets are falling early in the innings and it is up to the middle and late order to rescue the innings. Styris and Oram did this successfully against England. Dwayne Smith did it against Pakistan who in turned failed. No Razzaq and Afridi left Pakistan without any late innings recovery.

So if the Tigers can get past Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid in the first fifteen overs the spinners can put pressure on the middle order where they need good bowling plans for danger players Dhoni and Pathan. I think they might have a better shot against Sri Lanka who have a weaker middle order.

A lot if going to fall on the batting shoulders of youngsters Ashrafal and keeper Rahim if India get through the top order.

India can beat bangladesh convincigly but still Bangladesh can not be taken lightly as they created an upset by beating pakistan in 1999 world cup leage match.

thanks

great

It was refreshing to know that Bangladesh is not taken 'lightly' now a days. I think it is the 'pay-off' time for history for Bangladesh. India never 'allowed' Bangladesh to play test matches on its soil because of the lack of 'market' for Bagladesh Cricket. The first game of the 2007 world cup cricket is the 'first slap' on India's face in this series. There will be more in the future.

In response to Mohammad Hanan's comment that there will be more slaps in the future for India by Bangladesh, let me remind Mohammad Hanan that luck is not going to be on their side all the time and that Bangladesh and Bangladeshis are far inferior than India and Indians and for them to consider themselves in the same league as Indians is like a dwarf trying to reach the moon. Do not think if a dog bites an elephant one or two times, the dog becomes equal to the elephant.
