The final match of the World Cup Cricket 2007 will be held on 28^th of April 2007. Sri Lanka and Australia are the two finalists of this world cup. Both Sri Lanka and Australia were the finalists of World Cup Cricket 1996. Though Sri Lanka won the final of 1996 world cup, this time Australia seems to be the favorite in the final as they are still unbeaten in this world cup. However, Sri Lanka has already proved that they have the potential to win the cup for the second time. Now I am going to analyze the batting strength of the Sri Lankan team.

At first, I would like to point out the two young stars of Sri Lankan team- opening batsman Upul Tharanga and middle order batsman Chamara Silva. Upul Tharanga is developing in his batting gradually and he seems to have the capability to serve the Sri Lankan team for a long time. On the other hand, Chamara Silva has already been proved as an attacking middle order batsman. He has the ability to carry on the innings by both taking singles in the middle of the innings as well as playing lofted shots in the slog overs. With the inclusion of Russel Arnold, Sri Lankan batting line up seems to be more balanced.

However, it is Sanath Jayasuria, who has again proved the proverb, “Old is Gold” with his brilliant batting performance in this world cup. Captain Mahela Jayawardene scored an excellent century in the semi-final against New Zealand which indicates his getting back in the form. However, I would like to bet on the most successful batsman of the Sri Lankan team in the recent past- Kumar Sangakara, the wicketkeeper-batsman. I think that he would be vital for Australia in the final.

I am praying that tomorrow Sri Lankan batsmen can shine and defeat Australia.
