Designer Sharbari Datta is an exceptional name in Indian fashion world. When majority of the designers were busy with Western style fashion Sharbari Datta roamed around the traditional world and created beautiful dresses. A men’s wear designer Sharbari Datta turned simple Punjabi and Dhoti into a fashionable dress.
Now, she is going to create history in the fashion world. Why? Because this 45+ fashion designer is designing Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding dress. Abhiwarya’s wedding is one of the major events in Bollywood history and Sharbari Datta will also be an integral part of that history. I am quoting from the report published in earthtimes:
Abhishek Bachchan will exchange wedding wows with Aishwarya Rai wearing an outfit designed by Sharbari Datta, the well known revivalist menswear designer here.It was Ash's mother Brinda Rai's wish that the Bachchan men wear clothes by Datta, India's 'only woman designer' who dresses up 'only men' in traditional attires.'I have despatched about 30 pieces of classical Indian dresses for the marriage after Brinda Rai said that I should design the clothes for Abhishek and the menfolk of the Bachchan family. I have reasons to hope that Amitabh Bachchan would also wear my collection on the day,' Datta told IANS in an exclusive interview.'They are various cuts and styles in maroon, off-white, electric blue and rust which I have used keeping in mind the 6ft 3in height and medium complexion of Abhishek,' said Datta who for decades has reigned supreme in the men's fashion world, weaving magic on otherwise bland pieces of kurtas and achkans.'
Aishwarya Rai’s mother knows Sharbari from 2003. Sharbari said that she is very happy to be the part of an event that is every designer’s dream.
Born to famous poet Ajit Dutta, Sharbari started fashion designing at the age of forty five. Earlier, she used to work with her husband Alo Dutta. Sharbari grew up in a family of art and music and she treats the dresses like a canvas. Some of the big names like Jagjit Singh, Vijay Mallya and Russi Modi to Leander Paes, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, M.F. Hussain, Baichung Bhutia and Sourav Ganguly are among her clients.
