Akiko Kojima is the first winner of Miss Universe from Japan as well from Asia. This super model of Japan won the crown in Miss Universe 1959 competition. She had a good physique that helped her to catch the attention of many people. At that time, Akiko Kojima was 22 years old and looked very smart with her cute smile. Miss Akiko won the crown defeating Miss Norway, Miss USA, Miss England and Miss Brazil in the top five.  Miss Universe 1959 was held in Long Beach, California, USA.

There was a rumor that Miss Japan Akiko Kojima had gone through a breast surgery before Miss Universe 1959 started. However, later on, she denied everything about it. Winning the crown, she became a star not only in Japan but also in the whole world. Akiko Kojima rose to stardom overnight. Here, I would like to mention that after 48 years Miss Japan Riyo Mori has become the second Japanese to win Miss Universe title in 2007 in Mexico.
