Amitabh Bachchan: Charity Should Begin at Home

I felt amused to read that  Amitabh Bachchan spent some time volunteering for an Oxfam shop in England. There is nothing wrong with it. Oxfam is famous for its fight against poverty and in India, Oxfam is helping a lot of poor people.

What is so funny to me if the fact that only in last month, Amitabh Bachchan arranged a very expensive wedding ceremony for his son in India. It was supposed to be a simple ceremony but Amitabh Bachchan did not hesitate to spend a lot of money in a city thousands of people cannot have 3 meals a day. I wonder whether Amitabh Bachchan thought of the poor people at all last month when he arranged a lavish wedding ceremony for his son.

About Amitabh Bachchan’s support to Oxfam, IBN Live wrote:

Bachchan, who is the ambassador of the IIFA, helped at the Oxfam shop in Westbourne Grove, London, to launch a series of Oxfam fringe events in the lead up to the prestigious awards weekend in Yorkshire on June 7-9.

Bachchan said it was an honour to help Oxfam because it fights poverty and suffering in more than 70 countries, including India.

“Many people in India have benefited from Oxfam’s projects so it was important for me to see some of the fundraising efforts in the UK and meet some of the volunteers who give up their time to support Oxfam’s life-saving work,” Bachchan said.

Many people are indeed suffering in India. And it is really indecent to see that people like Amitabh Bachchan earn a huge amount of money but do not give anything back to the deprived people of the society. I would really like to see Amitabh spending some time in India to help the poor people. He should also teach his son and son’s wife to help poor people instead of going to Europe for honeymoon.
