Indian Tour of Bangladesh: Dav Whatmore wants to Impress BCCI?

BCCI bosses have failed to make up their mind yet on selecting the next Indian coach. So, there is a lot of speculation in Indian media about this matter. It seems that two persons are strong contenders: Tom Moody and Dav Whatmore. However, what is funny to me is that that there is some suggestion in the media that Dav Whatmore wants to Impress BCCI officials in the upcoming Bangladesh vs India series that starts from tomorrow with the first ODI.

India Times wrote: Bangladesh's outgoing coach Dav Whatmore hopes to impress his potential Indian employers by plotting India's downfall in the One-day and Test series starting on Thursday.

Whatmore, who finishes his four-year tenure with Bangladesh after the India tour ends on May 29, is seen as a strong contender, if not the frontrunner, to replace Greg Chappell as India's coach.

I got confused reading the report. It is the job of every coach to guide his team to win. Why the question of impressing BCCI officials should come? Dav Whatmore should try with his best ability that Bangladesh team should win the series against India. Even if Dav Whatmore did not want to become Indian coach yet he should try his best to cause the defeat of India in the upcoming series.

In another story, The Economic Times wrote:

If, as a Times Now TV story has it, Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore is being considered as Greg Chappell’s successor for Team India, it could be a case of choosing the right man for the wrong reasons. Granted, Whatmore has a great track record, having coached Sri Lanka to its first World Cup title in 1996 and, more recently, having guided Bangladesh to the Super Eight stage of the 2007 World Cup.

So, I guess that they think that Dav Whatmore is not the best choice for Indian cricket. I do not understand just one thing. Why some people in India are trying not to see Dav Whatmore even before trying! He has done wonders with Sri Lankan team and Bangladesh cricket team in the world stage. What is the problem if he can get the opportunity to do something for Indian cricket?

I have nothing against Tom Moody. He is a great coach too. I believe that if Tom Moody becomes Indian coach, he can contribute a lot too.
