In his career, Irfan Pathan has 11 half centuries (6 in Test and 5 in ODI). As a result, Pathan was being compared to Indian legend Kapil Dev for his continuous all-round performance in both Test and ODI cricket. In limited over cricket, Pathan was sometimes sent at no. 3 position though he was the strike bowler of the team. Srinath thinks that as Pathan had to concentrate on batting, he could not give it to his main job- bowling.

"Personally, it is very disappointing the way he has fallen off. I thought he was one of the good finds we had in recent years," Srinath, in the city on a promotional visit, said.
"The commitment to bowling has to be 100 percent, nothing less," said the 37-year-old former cricketer, now an ICC Match Referee.
"You can't take solace from the fact that you have scored some runs. And he himself has said that batting is only a bonus.
Irfan Pathan started his career having a lot of potential in him. In the early years, he could show his talent and proved his capability. However, he could not live up to the huge expectation from his fans. So his bowling performance was declining. In this kind of situation, coaches should come forward and find out a solution for the player. However, outgoing Indian coach Greg Chappell could not manage time to give Pathan proper advice as Mr. Greg Chappell was busy with planning to keep Sourav Ganguly out of the team.
