If you know a bit of cricket then you must know that BCCI, the regulatory board of Indian cricket, is the richest cricket board in the world ahead of Australia, England and South Africa. Moreover, it is needless to say that endorsement and sponsorship are the main source of BCCI’s income. However, for the last few years, the business organizations initiated a lot to other sports including Tennis, the fastest growing sports event in India at this moment. Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi has recently revealed own wish regarding tennis. Mr. Bhupathi indicated the growing involvement of corporate to tennis.

Do you have a personal goal for Indian tennis?

Personally, I have many goals for Indian tennis! I have always believed we have a lot of talent in the country, which is why we have always had juniors ranked high in the World. Where we have been falling behind is the fact that there is no system to ensure these talented juniors receive the guidance to take the step from leading juniors to leading professionals.

Have you set yourself a time target for getting an Indian player into the elite level (top 30)?

It's an ongoing process. We would ideally like to say ten good years, but having said that, we have some good talent currently in Akash, Christopher, Kyra and Aishwarya. If a couple of them break through, it will be a great start for the rest to follow.

Mahesh Bhupathi is currently playing for India in the international tournaments and still holds the torch of Indian Men’s tennis by his own. However, the rise of Sania Mirza in the last few years in international tennis, helped to increase the attraction of tennis among the youths in India.
