It is now old news that Dav Whatmore is the hot favorite for becoming the next coach of Indian cricket team. It seems that some people are not happy with this matter. Kapil Dev is one of them. Well, it is not that Kapil Dev has any personal disliking towards Dav Whatmore. Kapil is a strong advocate of having an Indian coach for Indian cricket team. So, he does not want a foreigner in this position and that is why he is opposing Dav Whatmore.

Hindustan Times reported:
Kapil was apparently baffled by the fact that though they had never worked with Australian Dav Whatmore, the senior players threw their weight behind the him, after he opted against an extension of his contract with the
team after the World Cup. Bangladesh "The players have never worked with Whatmore, how can they recommend his name," a miffed Kapil told a private television channel.
He was against the preference for a foreign coach and if the trend continued, he said, "One day, things will be such than Sachin (Tendulkar), VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly will be in contention for the coach's job but would never get it."
I do not agree with Kapil’s idea at all. First of all, Dav Whamore has a very impressive track record as a coach. Secondly, Dav Whatmore is now perhaps the most experienced coach about South Asian countries. More than everything, Kapil has not mentioned the name of any Indian coach who should be selected instead of Dav Whatmore. The reality is that

I am sorry but why are we even discussing about an appropriate coach for Indian Cricket. Truly said by someone, public has short memory!!
Unless we can motivate our crickets to play any better, coach couldn't make much difference - world cup defeat was humiliating enough to learn that lesson!
Perhaps, suspending the cricket team for few years may be an idea to threaten the comforts of our cricket players and organization!
