Mohammed Ashraful has been named the next captain of Bangladesh cricket team for both Test and ODI cricket. 22 years old Bangladesh batsman Ashraful had earlier been appointed as the vice-captain of the Bangladesh team before the series against India. He becomes the 13th captain of Bangladesh team. Another young star, Mashrafe Mortaza has become the vice-captain of the team.
There was a speculation that Ashraful would lead only the ODI team and Habibul Bashar would remain the captain for Test team. However, selectors named Mohammad Ashraful as the captain thinking about the future of the team.
Although it is true that Mohammad Ashraful is one of the best batsmen of Bangladesh team at this moment, I can not be as optimistic about his success as a captain because he has little experience of captaincy in domestic cricket. I am also worried that if captaincy becomes an extra burden and hampers his batting. You know that this happened for Sachin Tendulkar in the past.

Mohammad Ashraful and Mashrafee Mortaza will remain in the post till the Twenty 20 World Cup Cricket 2007 tournament in September 2007. The first assignment of Mohammad Ashraful as captain will be Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka.
