You already know that Dav Whatmore is out of the race for the next Indian coach. For the last few weeks, the Indian media stated that Dav Whatmore was the top favorite to become the next Indian coach. Now, all of a sudden, BCCI has decided to leave Dav Whatmore out even before giving him any opportunity. It seems that Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri were the main factors behind BCCI’s sudden u-turn about Dav Whatmore.

The Hindu reported:

According to inside information, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, as expected, set the ball rolling by proposing Whatmore's name. It was promptly opposed by Ravi Shastri. With Sunil Gavaskar too venting his feelings against him in recent times, it sealed the fate of the Australian.

It is believed that Whatmore's association for such a long time with teams from the sub-continent had gone against him. That and the fact that he seemed over-eager to take the job, even at the cost of not looking involved enough during the just-concluded India-Bangladesh series.

With Whatmore out of the race, the games began. As the house debated other possible candidates, Shastri sprang the name of former South Africa coach Graham Ford.

Really, Indian cricket needs to get rid of so called experts like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. Whatmore has been related to South Asian cricket for a long time- is it a crime!! He was involved with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Under his coaching, Sri Lanka won the championship of World Cup Cricket 1996. Under his coaching, Bangladesh cricket team defeated India and South Africa convincingly in World Cup Cricket 2007. So, it seems that Whatmore’s crime was that he was extremely successful in South Asia! Gavaskar and Shastri wanted someone who did not have successful track record?
