Asian Cup 2007 is very close to kick off and the teams are now busy with their last moment preparation. Many teams have already named their final squad. Now, I am going to write about the Vietnam squad for the coming Asian Cup football tournament. You must know that Vietnam is not a famous name in the football world- not even in Asia, but their recent performance is satisfactory. It is needed to let you know that Vietnam is one of the four host countries of Asian Cup 2007. Coach Alfred Riedl has preferred comparatively young players in the squad as he has taken 12 players from under-23 Olympic Squad. The most recent successful performance for the Vietnam football team is their qualifying for the next year’s Olympic Games.

Vietnam squad for Asian Cup: Tran Duc Cuong, Bui Quang Huy, Duong Hong Son; Nguyen Van Bien, Doan Viet Cuong, Phung Van Nhien, Huynh Quang Thanh, Vu Nhu Thanh, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Pham Hung Dung; Nguyen Vu Phong, Phung Cong Minh, Nguyen Minh Chuyen, Mai Tien Thanh, Dong Huy Thai, Le Tan Tai, Phan Van Tai Em, Nguyen Minh Phuong, Tran Duc Duong; Nguyen Anh Duc, Le Cong Vinh, Huynh Phuc Hiep, Phan Thanh Binh.

Reserves: Nguyen The Anh; Nguyen Thanh Long Giang, Chau Phong Hoa; Le Hong Minh, Mai Xuan Hop; Hoang Ngoc Linh, Nguyen Viet Thang.

Vietnam will play in Group B where there are will be defending champion Japan, Qatar United Arab Emirates. No doubt, Japan is the ultimate favorite in the group but it is expected that there will be a hard competition among the other three teams. However, I think Coach Alfred Riedl has taken a praiseworthy decision on giving much focus on the young players. I have to say that Vietnam is a hard contender to cause any upset in Group B.
