Pakistan: For and Against Dav Whatmore

It seems that the drama regarding Dav Whatmore is going to continue for sometime yet. In May and June, BCCI officials prolonged a drama about him and now it is the time of PCB officials. Last week, we saw media reports that PCB officials have decided to appoint Whatmore as the next coach of Pakistan cricket team and that matter would be officially announced soon.

Now, some people in Pakistan are against the appointment of Dav Whatmore. Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf are against the appointment of Dav Whatmore because they think that Whatmore is a serious person and takes his job seriously.

The Hindu reported:

According to source, the players are apprehensive about Whatmore who has established his reputation as a hard task master.

"Some of the players are not comfortable because of Whatmore's reputation of being a no-nonsense person who is not afraid of taking on the players in his team on important issues," the source said.

Incidentally, former captain and ex-chief executive of the board Rameez Raja said in an interview that he would like to see Richard Done get the job.

"My vote is for Done because he is said to have excellent management skills," Raja said.

I am shocked with such kind of report. Players should admire a coach who is serious and professional. On the other hand, PCB officials should not take the word of Rameej Raja seriously. No other coach has a better track record than Dav Whatmore in South Asia. Fortunately, former captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has realized this matter and he has supported Whatmore.

Dav Whatmore has done magic for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. I guess that BCCI and PCB officials are afraid of success.
