Scotland is not a big name in world cricket. Scotland will be playing in Group D during the Twenty20 World Championship. In the group, they have to face two sub-continent powers Indian and Pakistan. Apparently, Scotland is the underdog in the group. However, in Twenty20, the shorter version of cricket, it is possible to cause upsets more easily than ODI matches.
The main advantage of the Scottish side is that many of their players play in different county teams of England. So, they have experience that will help Scotland during Twenty20 world cup 2007.
The players are:
Ryan Watson (Forfarshire, captain), John Blain (Rotherham); Dougie Brown, Navdeep Poonia (Warwickshire); Gordon Drummond (Watsonians); Gavin Hamilton; Majid Haq (Ferguslie); Ross Lyons, Qasim Sheikh (Clydesdale); Neil McCallum, Gregor Maiden (Grange); Dewald Nel (Worcestershire); Colin Smith (Aberdeenshire); Fraser Watts, Craig Wright (Greenock).
Scotland was not impressive during ICC World Cup Cricket 2007. So, they will have to work very hard in forthcoming Twenty20 world cup. Another important thing is that Scotland players have experience of playing in Twenty20 because they are used to play Twenty20 in County cricket. So, India and Pakistan should not take Scotland lightly.
