Jodha, Jodha, Jodha, who is this Jodhabai? Well, I do not know the answer but Ashutosh Gowariker better know who she is or else he would face a world of trouble with his upcoming movie Jodha Akbar. When the Rajputs heard the story of his movie they were very upset. They said that Ashutosh was not presenting the true historical facts in his movie. However, Ashutosh said that he would not show any such thing in the movie that would hurt the Rajput community. They even filed a lawsuit in the Rajasthan court on this issue. Narendra Singh Rajawat, Secretary of the Rajput Sabha, went to meet Ashutosh in the shooting spot but he did not found him over there.
So far, I have found four identities of Jodha Bai in various reports:
- Narendra Singh Rajawat said that Jodha Bai was the maid servant of the wife of King of Amber; Raja Bharmal. He did not marry his daughter to Emperor Akbar.
- Interesting enough is that this same guy said in his petition that Jodhabai’s actual name was Jagat Gosain and she was the daughter- in-law of Mughal Emperor Akbar. She was married to Akbar’s on Jahangir. Now my question is, “Is Narendra Singh Rajawat sure about the identity of Jodhabai?” He gave two different statements.
- In another news report it was written that Jodhabai is the daughter of Udai Singh, ruler of Marwar and she was married to Akbar’s son, Jahangir and mother of Emperor Shahjahan.
This problem has not arisen for the first time. Other major Bollywood historical movies such as, Ashoka, Mangal Paandey and Taj Mahal ran into problems for misrepresenting historical facts.
Why this issue is so important? Because it is taking a political turn and at worst the Rajput community may create huge problems during the release of the movie at the theaters in Rajasthan and the movie will lose a lot of money. I hope Ashutosh knows what he is doing.
I have collected the facts from the following sources:
