Tsunami in Sri Lanka: People were not allowed to enter into religious buildings
It looks like when disaster strikes even the religion does not come to any help of  people. Yesterday upon hearing the tsunami alert, people of the coastal areas of Ratmalana city in Sri Lanka wanted shelter in the local church and temple but they were turned away.

Daily Mirror reports:
A. Raja said his family and several others were turned away by the priest of a church while they were subjected to the same treatment at a temple. “We went there as we had no place to go after we were asked to evacuate and the priest in the church turned us away, then we went to a temple by the Galle Road and the monk there also chased us."

He said he would spend the night on the road since he couldn’t afford to lose his belongings once again. “We are still undergoing difficulties after the 2004 tsunami and cannot afford to go through same experience once again,” Raja said.

After the earthquake hit Sumatra, tsunami alert was given in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and India. After few hours it was with drawn. Fortunately, there was no tsunami attack. However, Sumatra’s Bengkulu city was badly damaged by the earthquake.

The alert was issued after an underwater earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 started about 6:10 pm about 105 kilometers from Bengkulu Sumatra. Around 200 people were injured by the earthquake in Bengkulu.

Once again, Tsunami sent a chilling shiver among the residents of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In Sri Lanka, the 2004 tsunami took away lives of more than 35000 people and displaced 443,000. Still, many Sri Lankan people are living in relief camps or under open sky losing their relatives and parents. The worst thing is that there is no way to stop Tsunami. The only option is to have  necessary infrastructures to remove people safe and sound. It is time government and various private organizations work together to build such infrastructures.
