Twenty20 World Cup 2007: India’s Batting Strength

Twenty20 World Cup 2007 will start from 11 September 2007. This is going to be the first world cup in Twenty20 format. Ahead of the tournament, all of the participating countries have already declared their squads. Naturally, hard hitters are preferred in all of the squads. Indian team has also unveiled their squad recently. I think batting is the strong side of Indian twenty20 squad.

No doubt, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the most important batsmen for Twenty20 world cup 2007. Indian fans will expect some lofted shots from Dhoni. You also know that Dhoni has been given the captaincy of Indian team for the first time. I do not know if Dhoni will succeed or not but I think, it will create some pressure on this big hitter. Dhoni is not as experienced as Sachin, Sourav or Dravid. So, giving the captaincy to Dhoni ahead of such an important tournament may be proven wrong. Rather, this extra responsibility can create extra pressure on Dhoni which will definitely affect in his individual performance.

Indian batting line up looks impressive with Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag. However, I think, India will definitely miss their three star batting trios Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Missing these three experienced batsmen will naturally create some problem in Indian batting line up. It is really hard to believe that a team is going to take part in the world cup leaving its three important batsmen without any reasonable reason.

Irfan Pathan has come back to the team. So, it is expected that India’s lower order batting line up will be stronger with the inclusion of Irfan. Moreover, Irfan’s elder brother Yousuf Pathan has made it to the Twenty20 world cup squad because of his hard hitting batting style. This is really very good to have an in form batsmen in the team.

India’s batting line up is very promising. However, they lack experience. Well, you can argue that young stars should be given chance to gather experience. Yes, I agree with you but it does not mean that you have to include most of the young stars for a world cup tournament leaving your three veteran members. Anyway, I still believe that this batting line up can bring some impressive performance for India.
