AMD Considering Chip Plant in India

India may be the top name in IT outsourcing but India is far behind than many South East Asian countries when it comes to hardware and manufacturing. Intel did not want to set up a chip plant in India. Recently, Canon bosses also ruled out any idea of setting up a manufacturing plant in India. So, the media speculations that AMD is considering the idea of having a chip plant in India surprised me.

 India Times wrote:

AMD's chip production efforts in India have been limited so far to its involvement with SemIndia, a consortium of investors that plans to set up a wafer fabrication, and assembly and test operation in India.

Ruiz said the new facility would be vital in designing and delivering industry-leading solutions tailored to the needs of its customers all over the world.

The R&D teams in Bangalore are playing a lead role on AMD's first 45-nanometre (nm) quad-core microprocessor, code-named Shanghai.

If AMD really does so then I would say that AMD bosses are smarter than Intel and Canon bosses. India is not a bad place for manufacturing. World’s leading automakers have already understood this matter. It is time that computer companies can understand it soon.

Yes, India is now very developed in IT sector. I don’t know why doesn’t Intel, Canon want to set up a chip plant in India. I think if they set up such manufacturing plant they will be benefited. It seems to me that these companies understand the development of IT sector of India. So, AMD toke a step to set up a manufacturing plant.

No doubt, AMD has taken a good move as they could understand potential of Indian market already. I agree with you on the matter that Indian market is suitable for IT sector as the country has skilled manpower in this sector. So, the global IT companies like AMD, Intel etc. can bring out extensive success in India. However, I think, Indian government should come up with some initiative to attract the global organizations in India providing lucrative offers.
