EPL: Arsenal FC Targeting Indian Market

Arsenal is one of the top clubs in English Premier League (EFP) football. It has fan base around the world.

According to a report:

Arsenal is now one of the biggest clubs in the world. It has an estimated global fan base of 27 million people of which two million are in the UK, 11 million in Europe, 12 million in Australasia, two million in Africa and two million in North America.

This report was published in 2005 and I guess the number of supporters of this club has increased since then. When it comes to sports in India, it is always just cricket. However, in the last few years, global football is catching the attention of many Indian people through satellite TV channels. Arsenal wants to tap into the Indian market which is growing at a fast pace.

Herald wrote:

According to well-placed sources, Arsenal FC have entered into an agreement with Tata Tea and High Life Management paving the way for top class coaches and ultra-modern football into the sub-continent for the first time.

As per the deal, coaches from Arsenal FC will visit India and train school children for two-weeks while a 20-member group -- including two school children from Goa -- will be selected for enhanced training at the prestigious Arsenal FC Youth Academy.

In London, the children will have an opportunity to visit the Emirates Stadium — home of Arsenal FC — and watch the likes of Robbie Van Persie, Emannuel Adebayor, Jens Lehmann train from handshaking distance.

Now, Indian viewers can see matches of many European Leagues live. According to Times Online, “An estimated 42 million Indians watched the English Premiership last season”. Arsenal recently signed Shahrukh Khan to promote the club.

India is a huge country but its football team is very weak in the international stage. So, there is a huge untapped market for big football clubs like Arsenal. Manchester United has also taken the Indian market seriously.

By the way, if you are an Arsenal fan, there is good news for you. Just few minutes ago, Arsenal drew with Manchester United 2-2 and Arsenal is still top of the premier league. To know the result of the match between Arsenal and Manchester United and get the detailed report go here: Arsenal 2-2 Man Utd.

I am a big fan of football and I will try to cover English Premier League (especially about Arsenal and Manchester United) news from now here in this blog.
