In the world market it is Toyota vs GM but in Indian market it is Maruti vs Hyundai. Indian market is ideal for inexpensive cars and Maruti and Hyundai could answer to this market quite well. Well, in the recent years, Maruti was becoming strong and Hyundai officials were thinking of something that could help them to contain Maruti in the Indian market. Hyundai officials are now hoping that i10 will be the car that will help Hyundai to shine in the Indian market.

Hyundai's biggest strength has been its aggression and there is no reason to believe why it will not go in for a swap scheme where existing Santro owners can upgrade to the i10. This way, there is no danger of them moving to a competitor's model.

The company has not done particularly well since the heady days of the Santro. While the Elantra bombed, the Getz suffered on account of its pricing and could not make a mark in the B+ category.

I was surprised with the smartness of Hyundai officials about the naming of i10. You know that now days, iPhone is a hot gadget and many Indians are crazy for iPod too. So, the name i10 would sound something cool to them.
