Jaguar-Land Rover Bid: Tata Motors and Fear of Outsourcing

Tata Mortos Limited is perhaps now the top favorite to buy Jaguar Cars Limited and Land Rover. If Tata can do it then it will be perhaps the first acquiring of a global car brand by any Indian company. Now, Tata bosses will have to win the support of the union leaders of these two companies. This is not an easy task at all. You know that Land Rover and Jaguar are in Britain and many British workers are worried about outsourcing of their jobs to India. So, I wont get surprised if they have the same worry about Tata Motor’s bid to buy Jaguar Cars and Land Rover. In fact, some union leaders are already worried about this matter in Britain.

Times Online wrote:

Ford is trying to win support from the unions and ministers amid fears over the implications of the sale of the two brands, which have several factories in the West Midlands and Merseyside.

The unions have not publicly stating a preference, but are thought to be concerned about market positioning and outsourcing if Tata wins the bid.

Tata is about to market a car costing just over £1,000, which is being dubbed the people’s car, in India.

This is a problem that Tata has to deal smartly. I have not heard any outsourcing plan from Tata Motors yet. So, Tata officials have to clarify this issue to the British media as soon as possible. Earlier this year, a prediction was made that many British jobs may be outsourced to India in near future.

What advice do you want to give to Tata bosses about this matter?
